Oh boy, the dreaded constipation! It’s been days and you still haven’t gone to the bathroom. Your stomach is hard, full, bloated, your completely uncomfortable, you can barely eat a full meal because there is no room left in your stomach. Consequently, the scale is reflecting you gained a few pounds and you know why. Does any of this sound familiar? If it does, I’m sorry. Really, I am because I have dealt with constipation ummm pretty much my entire life. Believe me, I totally feel your pain, frustration, and discomfort.
The Remedies That Don’t Work
My severe constipation resulted in me trying different remedies to help regulate my bowels over the years. Probably my first mistake was taking ex-lax (wow that’s a BIG No No, never again). In addition to ex-lax, I’ve also gone from eating a bowl of frosted shredded wheat everyday (yep, gets really old and it’s “processed food” )to drinking plum juice, taking different fiber pills and drinking Metamucil (yes the “old” peoples drink). I’ve tried it! Nothing really worked.
Foods That Help Constipation
As you probably already know having a diet that is high in fiber would definitely be beneficial to your bowel needs. Women need about 25 grams of fiber each day. That means having a diet that is rich in plant foods everyday. If you eat this everyday one cup of broccoli 5.1 grams, a tablespoon of flax seed 3 grams, one cup quinoa 5 grams, medium size apple 4.4 grams, one banana 3.1 grams, one cup of blackberries 7.6 grams you would actually exceed the recommended amount of fiber by 3 grams. Problem is, most women just have a hard time eating that much fiber in one day.
